Faith

poetry

In the origin of the word is faith
And faith is the foundation of the world –
It is a mystery, obscure and divine :
When promises are remembered no longer,
There is faith, and whereas a promise may
Be no longer remembered, there is faith –
 There is such faith.

For there is difficulty in the ways
Of man, and there is difficulty in
The reconciliation of a man
With his own heart – profound difficulty:
It is in the nature of man to seek
Justice in all things and to seek justice
In his heart, but where strength prevail and truth
Acquiesce and time pass, though justice be
Attainable, it is attainable
Through faith. Through faith and faith alone it is
Attainable. It is attainable
Through faith, through faith absolutely, and through
Faith alone. It is only in a spiritual sense
That we can reach out to this faith, that we can know
This faith, and in knowing, possess it.

Reach out to those who have reached out in faith –
Provide guidance in faith and in providing guidance,
Provide faith. For faith and faith alone
Provides for the reconciliation
Of all things : of the light with the darkness,
Of justice with fate, of September and
The equinox, of red with these mild blues;
Of worldliness and squalor, of truth
And innocence, of jealousy and love,
The fruit with the seed. We can reach this faith.
 There is such faith.

Between order and appearance, there is
Faith; between luxury and art, there is
Faith – it is as the report of a man
Believing in the possibility
Of his own inevitability :

For between beauty and the senses lay
Faith, between the future and the past lay
Faith, between circumstance and providence,
Faith. Between faith and faithlessness, yea, faith.
 There is such faith.
